Summer Sports Camps

Summer is well underway and this means summer camps for students who actively participate in our district’s extra-curricular programs.  This is a great way for students to stay active and to help develop their respective skills.  In fact, for many students, their off-season preparation is a direct indicator of just how prepared they will be when their extra-curricular season comes around.  Off-season preparation is, like so many things in life, the responsibility of the individual athlete.  Whether s/he chooses to attend weight lifting all summer will have an impact on their strength and quickness.  Whether s/he plays in summer league games and/or tournaments can make a difference in each student’s confidence and skill development.  So, if your child is an athlete, encourage them to be involved with the summer weight program or to play in various summer leagues.

One offering provided by some coaches is holding a summer camp for the athletes who plan to participate in their respective sport.  If you are interested in when these camps occur, access the district website for a calendar of events.  In the case of the new girl’s basketball coach, in place of a summer camp, he has been holding regular practice sessions. The schedule for these dates has also been posted on the website.

It is important for parents to know a couple of things about these summer activities.  First, these summer offerings are a coach’s choice.  These are not required by the school district nor are coaches paid by the district to offer a summer camp.  Second, for several of these coaches, they are trying to relocate to or become acclimated to a new community as well as a new job.  They will do their very best to communicate with our students but please understand their transition.  These are good people who want to the best possible for our students.  Last, keep in mind that unless they are charging for a camp then they are doing this work for no pay.  I certainly appreciate their commitment to our students.

With the turnover we have experienced this year in staff, this is a transitional year for our coaching staff.  Please keep this in mind.  If you have questions regarding camps or practices, check our website.  If you have other questions please contact us and we will do our best to find an answer to your question.
