Frequently Asked Questions and Answers on Coronavirus and the Schools…..

1. Where can I get timely and accurate information about the coronavirus?

KDHE is updating a Question and Answer form on their website frequently. The following is the link to that document:

Staying up to date on the latest coronavirus information can help you feel empowered to take the right steps to protect yourself. Here’s a list of the most accurate and reliable sources you can trust.

County Health Departments Morris,  Wabaunsee,  Geary,  Lyon

Our district has received information from Homeland Security about a malicious website pretending to be the live map for Coronavirus COVID-19 Global Cases by Johns Hopkins University. Visiting the website infects the user with the AZORult trojan, which is an information stealing trojan designed to ex-filtrate a variety of sensitive data.

Be careful when clicking on websites for information!

2.  Who is the County Health Officer, and does he/she have jurisdiction to close a school?

Currently, Dr. Daniel Frese is the Morris County Health Officer and Dr. Diana Katt is the Wabaunsee County Health Officer. State statutes do allow for the County Health Officer to close a school. Our school district will fully support the decisions of KDHE and our County Health Officials.

3.  How long will our school buildings be closed?

Currently, the mandate has been signed for the schools to be closed through Sunday, March 29th. Randy Watson, the Kansas Commissioner of Education, has also strongly suggested that all schools close for this week. We will plan on resuming regular classroom schedules on March 30, 2020 unless otherwise advised.

4.  Where should I look for school updates?

We will send updates through our parent notification system. If you need to update your contact information with us, please call the district office. Notices will also be posted on the USD 417 Facebook page, and local news stations will be contacted as well for closings.
