Council Grove Elementary Afternoon Preschool Program
Curriculum
We use a Pre-K Literacy Program that is divided into four parts: The Kitchen, The Farm, People, People Everywhere and Me and the World Around Me. Basic pre-kindergarten skills such as alphabet recognition, vocabulary, rhyming, alliteration, syllabication and listening are taught using this program. The CIRCLE assessment is administered three times a year to test the skills introduced through these units.
Home/School Communication
Monthly
Calendars will come home each month with your child keeping you
informed of our topics of study here at school and with the snack
schedule listed. Weekly reports will also be sent home on
Friday.
Math Newsletters will be sent home each time we begin a new math
skill. We encourage parents to complete the math activities
with your child at home.
Parent/Teacher Conferences will be held twice a
year.
Parent/Child Activities
Each
month we will send home a shape for you to decorate with your child
using creative materials you have at home. Please return for
the hallway bulletin board!
Birthdays
Please let me know in advance if you plan to bring a birthday treat and we will let you know how many students are in your child’s class. I will plan to have your child bring snacks on or near their birthday. Students who have summer birthdays, we will celebrate on their ½ birthday at school. For example, if your child’s birthday is July 10th their ½ birthday will be January 10th.
Absences and Illness
If your child has a fever, vomiting, or is not feeling well, please do not send them to school. Children need to be free of fever and vomiting for 24 hours before returning to school. Please call the elementary office or me if your child is going to be absent. 767-6851 ext 313
Snack
Parents provide snacks for our class. Milk is being provided by the Flint Hills Special Education Cooperative at no cost to the students. Everyone will receive a snack calendar at the beginning of each month.
All About Me Books
I will be sending home a book that is titled, “All About Me”. I would like you and your child to decorate this book with drawings or pictures. This can be as elaborate or as simple as you want to make it. After you have decorated it, you can slip the pages in page protectors or I can do that at school. We will tie the pages together with yarn and share our books with the class. This helps everyone get to know each other a little better. The books will stay at school in our classroom library and will come home at the end of the year. The books will also help bridge the gap from home to school and can provide comfort for a student who misses a loved one at home.
