Prairie Heights Parents & Teachers Organization
Prairie Heights PTO
By Mina Miller
PTO - What is it? It is an organization open to anyone interested in their school. It is Parents & Teachers working together to help each other further the education and experiences of our children.
PTO funds many activities for the students, and purchases items for the Prairie Heights buildings. The following are a few of the examples:
Prairie Heights Twister T-shirts to new
students
Book Fairs at both of the Prairie Heights Schools
Field Day for grades K-5
Summer Band Lessons
Summer Swim Lessons
D.A.R.E. Program
Ag in the classroom
Incentive Programs
School Assemblies
Field Trips
Perfect Attendance/Honor Roll Awards
Accelerated Reader tests and books
Quiz Bowl Awards
Spring Carnival
Our funding for these events depends on the willing and interested volunteers throughout the school year. We fund the concessions stands for volleyball, football, basketball and track. For concession stands we rely on 5th grade parent volunteers to run the concession stand for our home games. We have a very successful Flower Fundraiser in the spring every year.
How can I become involved? It is easy, just come to our PTO meetings. We are always needing more people with valuable thought and ideas. We meet 3 times in the fall and 3 times in the spring. Our meetings are held on the 3rd Tuesday of the following months: August, September, October, January, February and April. The meetings are from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. alternating between the Alta Vista and Dwight Schools.
