The USDA recently released a nationwide waiver extending flexibilities for immediate Free Breakfast and Free Lunch through the Summer Food Program.  This waiver allows schools across the nation to serve FREE breakfast and lunch to all students currently enrolled in USD 417 until December 31st or until the State allotted money runs out, whichever happens first.  USD 417 opted in and is now participating in this program.  We started on Tuesday September 8th, 2020 serving every enrolled child a free breakfast and lunch.  Please encourage your child/children to take advantage of the meals we will be providing for them.

Please remember that this waiver expires on December 31st or until the State allotted money runs out, whichever happens first.  Your student(s) will then return to their status of full pay, reduced, or free.  If your student(s) are currently full pay, you are encouraged to fill out a free and reduced lunch application to see if you qualify.  This is a confidential process.  Your application, information, and lunch status is protected and kept confidential.  You can access the free and reduced lunch application at www.usd417.net, listed under the “Parents-Community” tab, then select “Enrollment Information”.  Or, you can contact the district office with any questions as well.

Other important information:

· We will still offer doubles, Ala Carte, and milk with sack lunches

· This will be charged to their lunch account, please keep your child/children’s account positive if they will be using any of these extra services.

· We will be using the alert system to notify parents of negative balances

· If you have paid for lunch/breakfast, the balance will remain in your student(s) lunch account.   We do not know how long lunch/breakfast will be free.  When the waiver expires, your child’s money will be available to you.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Becky Shearer bsheaer@cgrove417.org or USD 417 District Office 620-767-5192
