Message from New Superintendent Aron Dody

Dear USD 417 Friends and Families,

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce my family and myself, as I will assume the role of Superintendent  of Schools in July upon Mr. Conwell's retirement at the end of June.  My name is Aron Dody and I grew up not far from Council Grove in Cottonwood Falls.  I attended Emporia State University where I received my undergraduate and graduate degrees.  I am currently pursuing my doctorate in educational leadership at the University of Arkansas.  I spent 10 years teaching mathematics and coaching boys' basketball in USD 253 at Emporia High School, followed by 6 years serving as a building principal and 4 years as the Superintendent  of Schools in North Lyon County, USD 251.  The pride and joy of my life are my amazing wife, (Blythe), and our three children; Destiny (17), Cahaya (12), and Landon (11).

I am very excited about the opportunity to join the Morris County communities and the USD 417 family.  I have been particularly impressed with the staff and patrons I have had the opportunity to meet.  The outreach and hospitality I have already received from community members only exemplifies the family oriented values shared by those in Morris County Public Schools and the communities they serve!  Once I arrive in July, I will be working on setting up opportunities to meet with students, families, staff, and community members to visit and better learn about the culture of USD 417.  My door will always be open as I enjoy opportunities to visit, listen, and learn from others.  Once July rolls around please feel free to stop in the district office, as I would love to meet you and say hi!

It is an exciting time in Kansas with the new vision the State Board of Education has established.   We must continue to provide rigorous and engaging academic opportunities for our students, yet at the same time, we must not forget that the social and emotional component is equally important in preparing students to be successful when they graduate from USD 417.

While I hope everyone is enjoying their summer, I am excited for August to arrive and for the staff and students to return for an outstanding 2018-2019 school year.  See you soon!

    Aron Dody

  • Welcome Back to School, CGES Families!

Summer vacation is quickly fading away as we begin the 2018-2019 school year on August 16th.  We have had several facility upgrades over the summer that have changed the appearance of our campus.  New flooring in the kitchen, lunchroom and hallways is perfect for an elementary school building! Please make sure to take a look around on Tuesday, August 14th, at our CGES Back to School Night.  Parents have received a letter explaining times/events (the letter is also posted on the front page of the CGES website, www.usd417.net, click on Schools and scroll to CG Elementary).  To find other activities/events throughout the school year visit the CGES and/or District calendar at the website above.

This is the second year USD 417 student enrollment will be online.  We have made several changes to help fix the glitches that we had last year.   Please contact the District Office (767-5192) with any questions you may have.

We have seven new teachers in our building this year:  Brier Blythe - Kindergarten, Alec Anderson and Tina Frost - 3rd Grade, Shantel Sheets - 4th Grade, Freedom Green and Brooke Lococo - 5th Grade, and Rachel Hodges - 6th Grade.  They are a welcome addition to our CGES family!

Our district has adopted Second Step for our Social and Emotional Learning curriculum as well as our Bullying Prevention curriculum.  Second Step fits well with Integrated MTSS and our Kansas Education Systems Accreditation (KESA) Relationship and Relevance goals.

I am often asked, “What can I do to help the school?”  One easy way to help is by cutting out and collecting Box Tops for Education labels on common grocery items.  Each label earns our school 10 cents. Kollette Gilbert, our PTO Box Top Rep/angel in disguise, has spent many hours collecting, cutting and sending in Box Tops.  Over the years our school has been given almost $20,000 from Box Tops! You can drop off Box Tops at the CGES office. I am looking forward to an amazing year full of learning and fun!  Thank you parents, families and patrons for supporting CGES and the youth of our community!
