Prairie Heights Schools September Classroom Guidance

Bullying - What it is and How to Stop It

by Sue Mulryan

We will start the school year off with the focus on bullying, what it is, what to do and how to stop it.  The school policy  states that bullying is a deliberate repeated verbal, non-verbal, written, electronic, and/or physical attack over time with the intent to harm or intimidate another student emotionally or physically. USD 417 will not tolerate these actions by students or staff.  Students will learn the definition of bullying with special emphasis on four key terms - deliberate, repeated, over time, and with intent to harm.  These key terms distinguishes bullying from accidents, one time events, and unintentional behaviors.

The standards being addressed in September are:
Students will demonstrate recognizing and responding to bullying.  Students will…
3.1  Define the word "Bullying"
3.2  Identify bullying behavior                                                                                                                         2.3  Identify reasons for bullying
3.3  Describe the consequences of bullying
3.4  Practice dealing with feelings
3.5  Respond to bullying
3.6  Report bullying

As always, please contact me if there are any questions or concerns regarding classroom guidance or your student.  I am at PHES on Mondays; PHMS on Fridays; and available to go to either school as beeded on Friday.
