2. __________ Go to www.pin.ed.gov and apply for your electronic pin number. Parents, as well as seniors need a
pin number in order to apply for financial aid. APPLY FOR THIS IN AUGUST OR SEPTEMBER.
This is free and needs to be done by all students whether you are attending a Tech program or a College
3. __________ Come to Counselor’s office for credit check
4. ___________Apply to the school you wish to attend after graduation. Do this before
at the beginning of the school year. Complete before November 1st. Some colleges have their first scholarship deadline on November 1st. The earlier the better. If you know where you are attending apply this summer.
5. __________ Check out the School Web Site. ( www.usd417.net) Go to counselor and look up scholarship tab. Print off scholarship list and highlight all scholarships that you qualify for.
6. __________ Develop a resume before Thanksgiving Vacation. If you need help come see Mrs. Shoemaker. This includes schools you have attended. All awards that you have earned in High School, Offices and clubs you belong to and the number of years you held or belonged to the club
7. __________ Ask 3 adults to write you letters of recommendation before Christmas
vacation. It is good to get one recommendation from a community person (Minister, Employer etc)
8. __________ Get a File folder to keep your scholarship application information in.
Place a copy of your resume in the file folder. Place copies of your Letter’s of recommendation in the file folder
9. _________Register on fastweb.com. This is a free scholarship search engine. NEVER PAY ANYONE TO HELP YOU GET SCHOLARSHIPS. IF THEY CHARGE: IT IS A SCAM!!
10. _________ Write a Letter of Application for all scholarships before Thanksgiving break. This should include information about you, your goals, and your need for the scholarship. No longer than one page in length.
