Social Studies
The USD 417 Social Studies Subject Area Committee (SAC), with representatives K-12, created our local social studies curriculum during the summer of 2010. This curriculum will be piloted and finalized during the 2010-11 school year.
Our local curriculum is aligned with the Kansas Social Studies Standards, which is also referred to as the History & Government; Economics & Geography Standards. Our local curriculum is also aligned from grade level to grade level K-12. Reading skills are also used when learning social studies.
USD 417 students are expected to master each item of each grade level or course. Items marked with a star in grades K-4 are essential to tested items in later grades. Items marked with deltas are tested items on either the 5th, 8th, or HS state assessment. Words in italics can be found in the Social Studies Glossary at the state website link below.
