High School Addition Moving Along
The bond issue has been approved, the bonds sold, the plans updated so that USD 417 is well on its way to making some major improvements to Council Grove High School.
The building process does not start with the actual addition, however. USD 417 has been hard at work getting ready for the upcoming building project. Since the old cafeteria building needed to be torn down prior to building, it had to be relocated in the present high school complex. The largest room to accommodate the temporary cafeteria is the VPL lab located on the west side of the 1974 addition. This meant moving the VPL to another location which, of course, created a domino effect. By the winter holiday, all the moves had been made and the temporary cafeteria was ready for moving the needed equipment into it.
During the winter holiday, the final touches were put into the temporary cafeteria and when students came back, they started having breakfast and lunch there.
Because the room size is smaller, the high school went from 2 lunch periods to 3 lunch periods. Probably the most dramatic change is that the food is prepared at Council Grove Elementary School and transported over to the high school. Even though the food is prepared elsewhere, once it has been transported to the high school, the smells waft down the halls and greet the students and staff.
