SENIORS
Welcome to your Senior Year at CGHS. This is a very exciting time for each of you. Along with the excitement, come many tasks that need to be done in order to be ready to attend college after graduation.
Hopefully most of you have some idea what you are going to do when you graduate. The first step to being accepted into a college is to have taken the ACT Test. If you have not done so, or are planning to retake the test, you will find the dates listed below. The best case scenario is to take the ACT promptly. The first date is recommended. You can find an ACT packet here in the counseling office to register for the test. However, I feel the best option or students is to register on-line. The web site to register is "http://www.act.org.

Another important task is to apply for financial aid so you can reach the goals you have set for yourself. In order to receive financial aid for college you must fill out a form called the FAFSA. It will be available on-line and a small number will be available here in the counseling office sometime after January. In order to fill it out your parents must have filled out the paperwork for their taxes for 2011. The paperwork is completed online at the web site provided for you in this message. . You and your parents will need to apply for a pin number that will let you electronically sign your FAFSA form. Your pin will stay the same for all the years you are in college. You can get your pin number from the following web site: "http://www.pin.ed.gov. I will be more than happy to help you and your parents with this task if you need it. Also, you will be receiving information for you and your parents regarding a Financial Aid Workshop that will be held in January. Information will be given to you at a later date. Connie Corcoran, financial aid officer from Emporia State University, will be here at the high school auditorium at help answer all of your questions about filling out the FAFSA form.
Most parents and students have questions about applying for Scholarships. Many of our local scholarships have deadlines beginning in January. It is my hope to have as many of the scholarship applications available to you on the CGHS web site. As I receive the new applications for this year, I will add them to the site. Some of the applications will be available to you soon. You will be able to use a computer to fill out the forms. This can even be done from your home computers. There are links to national scholarship search engines on the CGHS web site in the counseling department.
There is a site called fastweb.com. It is a scholarship site and will inform you of scholarships that you may apply for. PLEASE REGISTER ON THE SITE. It is free.
